The Japanese Surrender
The United States destroy the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki utilizing for the first and last time the atomic bomb. A short time later on 2nd September 1945 the Japanese officially surrender onboard the USS Missouri and September becomes know as VJ day or Victory Over Japan day. This topic is only mentioned here to provide closure for this section and the bomb and Japanese surrender are dealt with in more detail in lesson 8.
